I always think of fearing God as giving HIm the rightful place of power, authority, immensity in your life. Since He occupies those psotions anyway, acknowledging this with your will lines you up rightly wiht every other facet of life. Like saying to the Earth, "give the Sun the rightful place at the center of your solar system", giving God the rightful place of omnipotence allows everything else to fnction rightly in your soul andin your experience. Perhaps a better understanding of this type of fear is to reverence God? We know that fearing God has promises, e.g., Prov 9:10 "The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom" and Prov 1:7 "The fear of God is the beginning of knowledge" The fear of God is a secure fortress (Prov 14:26), prolongs days (Prov 10:27), is a fountain of life (Prov 14:27), teaches wisdom (Prov 15:33), and is praiseworthy (Prov 31:30). Interestingly, the fear of God is to hate evil (Prov 8:13). (See also 2Cor 5:11, 7:1; Eph 5:21; 1Tim 5:20; 1Pet 2:17). Like much of the whole counsel of God I think there is a healthy balance somewhere between fearing and loving God. I don't think they are mutually exclusive at all. What are your thoughts on this? And in Peace Pilgrim walking 30,000 miles replacing fear with love....It is an ever new, ever present, newly discovered, and yet always elusive, ever commanding message...and Anthony is right on...the application of love , loving, is a powerful foundation.
