What was it like before us?
by Bob Hamp | Blog Posts | 3 Comments »My children enjoyed touring the homes in which they had grown up. Each home held different kinds of memories for each of my kids. The one that seemed to mean the least to them was the one in which only my wife and I had lived. Great memories for us…strangely boring to them. They did not have a way of thinking that allowed them to really consider life before themselves.
Do you suppose that “In the beginning God…” suggests that a time existed when God lived but we were not around yet? Certainly, I mean, such a time clearly existed. But it is very difficult for us to consider such a time, much less conjure up images from this segment of history. It seems to me that I have always been here, at least as far as I can remember. What do you think that time was like?
I picture a realm, a place, I suppose…a place filled with, well, filled with God. Filled with God and Godness. A place as much as it can be called a place where as far as you can see, as far as you can sense, everything is pulsating with the tangible presence and fragrance and sound and sensation of GOD.
Everything would certainly be arranged to His liking. In fact I think it would be arranged BY His liking. If He liked it, it would be…it would come to be…just because He liked it. A place for everything and everything in it’s place; not in some compulsive, rigid sort of way, but in the way that every note has a place in an amazing symphony, or complex jazz number. Things just fit. They fit and flow. They fit and flow and breathe; full of aliveness. Not just neurolgical, biological life…Aliveness! Passion, energy, lively, life.
Often people think that God is not very fun…I am convinced it is we who have done away with fun. I mean, aren’t we the ones who work until we have no more energy to enjoy life? God always told us to take a day to plug back into life, and let your spirit catch up with the rest of you. I am certain, absolutely certain that this place, as we are calling it, was also virtually radiating with Fun. Not necessarily fun things, but fun itself.
Our picture of Life BU (Before Us), is likely to be much more boring than could actually be true… I’m just saying….

Nicely put. I know that I could use more intentional fun in my life. I plan for just about everything else…but I rarely schedule in enough downtime with a focus on being refreshed (not just resting…but being refreshed).
However, I do think life BM (before me) was more boring…I’m just saying
Yuri Star,
Website: churchmedia.ccAw, Mr. Hamp! Great post! Honestly, I’m too tired right now to leave a “deep” comment reflecting on the above, but in my-eyes-are-as-open-as-a-paper-cut state, I am so excited for you and this blog! My dad has a couple of blogs, most notable being http://www.lordofthecastle.com and http://www.crumbsunderthetable.com. I know part of the motivation to write is so people will read…I’ll read!
