"Knock knock.... wake up Neo..."
We read these words in the first lines of digital dialogue as we first meet the messianic protagonist of the 1999 groundbreaking movie, The Matrix.
While in the moment he awakens from sleep, we watch through the rest of the movie as he is awakened from something greater than sleep... he is awakened from "the world which is pulled over his eyes".
Of the many reasons this movie so grabs the psyche of its viewers is the undeniable reality that we too have had the world pulled over our eyes. We have have had a Newtonian world pulled over our quantum eyes and we barely see the shadows of reality, all the while believing that we see all that is.
Even within the material world we now know that the human mind perceives only a fragment of the data that daily assaults our senses. Our senses take in eleven million bits of data every second. Our mind shows us 126 of these bits.
But because we see what we see, we believe we see all that there is to see. We too, like Neo, live in a dreamworld, but live as if we are wide awake.
Add to this material viewpoint the reality that we are also surrounded by invisible fields of real power. And whether you think this means the spiritual realm, or simply the multiple frequencies of energy that allow us to listen to the radio, tune into WiFi and see through our skin to take "photos" of our skeleton, among hundreds of examples, we must realize that more of the world is hidden from us than is perceived by our natural eyes.
Now I am not sure that my well-being depends on my ability to perceive WiFi signals with my five senses, but I do believe that the invisible world around us is far more the source of meaning, identity and purpose than is the job and the income that we often chase.
You may not be asleep, but to the degree that you search the world of your senses to discover what gave you life and therefore what gives you destiny, you are also not awake.
Thinking Differently, looking beyond what you see, opening your understanding to the likelihood that right now all around you is far more than you initially perceive is simply an invitation to "wake up".
If any area of your life feels stuck, or if your entire life just feels somehow less than you had hoped, consider the invitation to Wake Up.
Language often fails us in this invitation, because language is often developed as a way to describe what is seen and experienced already. The language of awakening is always limited. One writer invites us to allow our Creator to "open the eyes of our heart".
However you might need to hear it. There is more to reality. There is more to your created self.
There is more to the life you are created for. Wherever you are in your journey...there is always more.
